Slug Pellet Ban Revoked

GOVERNMENT BAN ON THE SALE AND USE OF METALDEHYDE SLUG PELLETS OVERTURNED - AUGUST 2019

During July 2019 a judicial appeal was made to The High Court with a view to declare the ban on the use and sale of metaldehyde slug pellets unlawful. The High Court approved an order that formally overturns the December 2018 Defra Ruling with immediate effect.

The timetable for introducing the proposed ban for the sale and use of metaldehyde slug pellets was as follows:

19th December 2018- Announcement that metaldehyde products will not be re-registered for use or sale. This includes the ban of the use of metaldehyde slug pellets outdoors after the Spring of 2020, FOLLOWING this date it will only be legal to use them in PERMANENT greenhouses.

30th June 2019 - The final date for the sale and distribution of metaldehyde slug pellets.

30th June 2020 - The final date for the disposal, storage and using up of existing stocks of metaldehyde slug pellets.

The High Court ruling takes the status of metaldehyde back to pre-19th December 2018.
